GRANDPARENT DNA TESTING IN NEW YORK CITY

NYC DNA offers premiere testing services in the New York City area. Many of our clients choose NYC to confirm or deny a relationship with their alleged grandparents. 50% of our genetic markers are inherited from our mothers while the remainder is inherited from our father. Hence, a quarter of our DNA is inherited from our grandparents.

Our company performs the Grandparent lineage test to determine whether or not two individuals (either the grandfather or the grandmother) are the biological grandparents of the child. Additionally, we perform Grandparentage Tests when an alleged father is not available to take the test. As a result, through this test, the lineage is established without the need to test an alleged or biological father at all.

We perform the Grandparentage Test with or without the child’s mother. However, we strongly advise the mother’s participation because it aids in excluding the half of the child’s DNA when compared to her DNA.

As a result, the remaining half of the child’s genetic markers are matched with the grandparents’ genetic markers. Having both of the grandparents present increases the accuracy of the test results as opposed to sampling a single grandparent. Considering this fact, we also strongly advise that you include both grandparents in the test – if this is possible.

LAWS REGARDING GRANDPARENTAGE TESTING IN NYC

New York State Laws mandate that the biological parents give consent on behalf of the child to administer a DNA test. Specifically, the law refers to the individuals named on the child’s birth certificate. As a result, in addition to the grandparents, a legal parent of the child must provide consent to administer grandparentage testing in NYC.

WHO IS REQUIRED FOR GRANDPARENTAGE TESTING?

We perform Grandparentage testing using several different combinations of participants:

  1. Testing the child along with the mother and two grandparents.
  2. Testing the child along with the mother and one grandparent.
  3. Testing the child and two grandparents.
  4. Testing the child and a single grandparent.

Ultimately, the most preferable testing scenario out of the four options is the first choice. By testing the child, the mother, and two grandparents, we achieve a much more accurate result. Each person we remove from the equation, let it be a grandparent or the mother, decreases the accuracy of a grandparentage test. Hence, to provide the most accurate results, it’s best to include all four individuals.

DNA SAMPLING METHODS USED IN GRANDPARENTAGE TESTING IN NEW YORK CITY

For the grandparentage test, we use the same sampling methods involved in our paternity tests. We use buccal swabs to collect cheek cells for 30 seconds. Our DNA sampling methods are pain-free and take less than a minute. Additionally, our accuracy rates exceed 99.99% when the alleged grandparents are actually the biological grandparents. Furthermore, when we are not actually testing the biological grandparents, our DNA tests can confirm with 100% accuracy that the individuals being tested are not biologically related to the child.

FAQ

If an alleged father cannot be tested, regardless of the reason, paternity can be established indirectly through other close relatives (i.e. grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc).

DNA testing is extremely accurate. Thanks to our methods and high standards, results for a standard legal paternity test is guaranteed to be at least 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions or 100% certainty of exclusion. The laboratory meets or exceeds all standards established by the AABB so you never have to worry about contamination or a mix-up in samples.

DNA collections are quick and painless. Using a buccal swab, check cells are collected by a registered AABB Relationship Testing Sample Collector.  That swab is then transported to the laboratory for DNA analysis.
