Avuncular DNA Tests in New York City

In cases where the alleged biological father of a child is unable to be tested, NYC DNA Testing can perform what is known as an avuncular DNA test. In these tests, we examine the DNA of the child alongside the DNA of the biological brother or sister of the alleged father.

How does it work?

A child obtains half of his/her DNA from their biological mother and the other half from their biological father. These are called maternal genes and paternal genes, respectively. Since the alleged father shares DNA with his full siblings; the father’s alleged child would also share paternal genes with the full sibling of the biological father.

 FAQ

Yes, you can establish paternity without the father’s direct involvement. DNA testing of close relatives provides a reliable alternative.

Grandparents – Testing the alleged father’s parents can help determine biological relationships.
Siblings – Half-brothers or sisters can take a DNA test to confirm a shared parent.
Aunts or uncles – The father’s siblings may also participate in testing to verify a genetic link.

These methods allow you to determine paternity even when the father is unavailable.

DNA testing is extremely accurate. Thanks to our advanced methods and high standards, a legal paternity test guarantees at least 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions or 100% certainty for exclusions. The laboratory meets or exceeds all standards established by the AABB so you never have to worry about contamination or a mix-up in samples.

DNA collections are quick and painless. Using a buccal swab, check cells are collected by a registered AABB Relationship Testing Sample Collector.  That swab is then transported to the laboratory for DNA analysis.
